Early one Friday morning, me, my family and two of my friends families set out to visit the KOC (Kuwait Oil Company) Camp in Al.Wafrah at around 8.30 am in the morning. The weather was clear and sunny and not a cloud was there in sky. Me and my brother were in high spirits and a lot excited. When we reached the camp, we stated playing a lot of games like kites, dodge ball, catch, cricket etc. After a while, we all sat down to eat the nice, hot barbecued vegetables. Then we, small children, played on swings and slides while the adults got engaged in preparing lunch. Soon, they finished and we were asked to come and to eat. Then, we played indoor games for a while.
Since the weather was clean, no one was in a mood to leave. Then, suddenly, the tent keeper came running to us that a news was flashing on the TV. We were hurried to the Dawaniyas (Big halls used as auditoriums). While on our way, we saw black clouds rushing in. We thought that they were the clouds of smoke but soon dust started entering our eyes and we understood that it was going to be the worst sandstorm in the history of Kuwait.
We were lucky that we reached the hall before the storm started and we did not leave for home otherwise we would have been jammed in the traffic jam and would not have reached home in time. We somehow managed three whole hours in the hall. Finally around 10.30 we reached for the car and left for home. Luckily, the storm did not cause much damage.
At home, specks of dust entered through the bottom of the window and spoiled the bed sheet. The Dawaniya we were staying had dust entering in due to the small holes in the windows. Everyone was wearing mask and walking about. News was flashing about the storm in other parts of Kuwait. The children were getting restless to get home. The adults were trying to contact their friends to know the condition at that part of Kuwait when we were finally let out to go home. What a relief that was !!!
