My Visit to KDD Juice Factory

Thanks to MMK that I got a golden oppotunity to visit a Juice Factory on 28th March 2011.  

We stayed there for three hours.  We started at 9 am in the morning.  We sat in a bus No.13 and started our journey to the Juice Factory.  Around 10.30 am we reached our destination after collecting children from Abu-Halifa and Salmiya.  We visited three sections there.  They were Culture and Non-Culture departments and the Warehouse.

Now I shall explain the events that happened in each sections.

Section 1 -

The first section we visited was the "Culture Department".  Here, I would like to mention that our guide was from Surat, Gujarat.  This was the department where curd and yogurt were made.  The word "Culture" means the change of milk to curd with the help of bacteria.  We were standing on the "packaging floor" where milk, curd, juice, olive oil etc were packed into boxes.  The building had three floors : Basement, packaging floor and the top floor.  There were machines of various shapes and sizes.  Pipes connecting from one place to another were in progress with various sounds and smell of curd.

Section 2 -

This was Non-CultureDepartment.  Here condensed milk, tomato paste, various sorts of juices were being made and packed into tetra packs which had seven layers of aluminium foil,  cardboard, paper and plastic.  They were being wrapped into boxes of eight with a thick plastic wrap.  They were provided with UDH rays and pasteurization to keep them germ free.

Section 3 - (frozen "-50 degree" and  normal Temperature)

After being made, the products need to be stored into a place before they have to be sent to other countries and USA Army otherwise it would be very messy.  So, the warehouse was the place where products were stored before being sent to other places.  The shelves were numbered and each item had a bar code which when scanned could tell the place of the item and whether it was removed.  Small cranes used to move items left and right and tall ones could move them up and down.

We also got juices to drink and caps of KDD.  We had a lot of fun !!
