My KiTCO Visit

Hi Friends!

Enjoying holidays? I am also enjoying, tour out of Kuwait for a week, then “Kahani”, outing, hoteling, etc. In spite of holidays and Friday this morning I got up early, obviously for MMK’s visit to the KiTCO factory which is famous for its chips, biscuits and other snacks.

I got up early and went to the Abuhalifa /Madina, where everyone was supposed to assemble. Due to rain yesterday night it was very cold. Bus came on right time, everyone got in and we left for KiTCO. It took us 30 to 40 minutes to reach the factory. We queued there and were eagerly waiting to see what is happening inside. We got the permission and also a chef’s cap and then yes….we were in Chips Section.
You know how they make Chips in mass quantity? I saw it!!

First they take out the potatoes from the bags and put them in a pipe this leads them to a continuously rotating container which has blades, this is peeler. Here all potatoes are peeled off. Potatoes are removed from this big peeler. Further they are washed vigorously and also starch is removed. Then potatoes are passed on belt, where some people cut them in to halves, and are carried to slicer. There they are sliced into thin slices. These slices are washed and the left over starch is again removed. These wet slices are sent to oven for drying. In this they are harden up and seem to be fried, but they are not. Then they are filled up in small trays and are sent for flavoring. Finally measured quantity of chips are filled into packets and sealed.

Friend’s good news for us is “Chips are not fried”

Next section was biscuits making:
Initially they make dough of flour and water to turn it into a paste. Then they pour this paste in to variety of molds and pass it to oven to bake it at 60 degrees for 6minuites. After baking, some people arrange them properly and put them in a rack. Further there is a roller with a small machine; this small machine spreads cream over the roller. Biscuits are passed under the roller and the cream is put on the biscuit, this is the lower part of cream biscuit.  Then upper part of the biscuit is placed and pressed lightly by a metal strip so that, cream doesn’t come out. Finally yummy cream biscuits are wrapped and filled into packets.

When we left we were supposed to come back by 11.30-12, but we reached home early and Aai, Baba and sis was surprised to see me back early and that too, with a big KiTCO Gift pack, full of all types of chips, biscuits, glowing batch and a cap.
Friends it was a very informative Factory visit and we all enjoyed it. This gave us a chance to meet all friends and geared us up for School reopening. I thank MMK for arranging such a nice factory visit.

Bye, friend’s and all the best for next school session.
